We are seeking a talented, passionate individual to fulfill the role of QUALITY RISK MANAGER at our National Base in Tharwa, ACT. This dynamic role may appeal to an individual who is passionate about making a difference, and would like to be involved in a worthwhile cause. This is a full time role.
The primary objective of the role is to ensure that safe, professional and quality programs are delivered across all of our operational areas in Australia.
Specific Roles and Responsibilities:
Strategic Focus
• Form part of the collaborative School Management Team.
• For part of the management team contributing to the AAS committee
• Assist in setting the operational goals and objectives within the School Management Team.
• Advises Chief Operational Officer on internal incident statists to aid strategic direction of Operational Risk Management of Outward Bound.
• Assist the Executive in establishing and supporting future direction
• Oversees the processes of risk analysis , management systems, policies and procedures.
Risk Management
• Reviews and monitors all actions taken of any Significant Incidents as they occur.
• Monitor and ensure accurate completion of all incident related paperwork.
• Review and enter incident information into relevant databases.
• Reports Significant Incidents to date bi-monthly to the Chief Operations Officer, Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors.
• Coordinates bi-annual Outward Bound International Program Review.
• Compiles annual safety report on incident statistics and risk management focal points.
• Implement and review effective risk management strategies in line with the safety report.
• In conjunction with the Learning and Development Manager and Team Managers investigate and maintain Industry Standards for Adventure Activities within Outward Bound Australia.
• Manage and coordinate all internal and external safety audits (including National Base ropes course and climbing wall) on an annual basis and report back to the ORMC with recommendations, actions and time lines.
• Update and manage Outward Bound Australia Organizational Safety Checklist.
• Assist the SMT in updating operational policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Document Control of Risk Management related policies and proforma’s .
• Chair and manage the Operational Risk Management Committee.
• Be a conduit between Operational Risk Management External Advisory Group and Outward Bound training and field operations.
• Perform a support role in the Emergency Management Procedure at Outward Bound.
• Oversees National Base Rope Course maintenance.

EACH currently has two (2) exciting opportunities for professionals skilled in working with young people and who have a passion for the outdoors.
Reconnect Wilderness is a state-wide program that aims to help young people make positive changes and build connections with family, education and the community. The program works with small groups (6-8 young people) to build up to a journey of 10 days in a remote and challenging environment, participating in activities such as rafting, bushwalking or canoeing.
The program provides an experience to mobilize change in a young person’s life and as such involves intensive preparation, follow up, and generating sustainable linkages to community supports.

Rubicon Outdoor Centre is a residential Outdoor Education School operated by the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. (Rubicon is a member of ROSA). It is located 130km north-east of Melbourne close to Lake Eildon. As part of the Cathedral Cluster, Rubicon is a TRIBES school. Nayook is situated near Neerim Junction in Gippsland.

"To provide educational programs in the outdoors that develop an enhanced understanding of self and others, to facilitate the development of a caring attitude towards the environment and society."
CURRICULUM
Rubicon's curriculum is primarily focused on outdoor education programs for school students from Year 6 to 12.
The outdoor environment is used as a medium for intra and inter-personal development, leadership, and team-building, through residential, single-day and off-campus programs.
Activities offered include rock climbing and abseiling, cross country skiing, horse riding, bushwalking, rogaining, high ropes courses, canoeing and white water rafting, mountain bike riding, environmental studies and initiative activities.

KSC1 Demonstrated high level teaching skills and the capacity to work with colleagues to continually improve teaching and learning.

KSC3 Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and high level interpersonal skills including a capacity to develop constructive relationships with students, parents and other staff.
KSC4 Demonstrated commitment and capacity to actively contribute to a broad range of school activities and a commitment to ongoing professional learning to enable further development of skills, expertise and teaching capacity.

OEG’s mission is to deliver excellence in outdoor education through partnerships with our clients, in order to prepare young people for the personal, social and environmental challenges in their lives. Our Group Leader Traineeship enables aspiring outdoor educators to develop their skills and experience whilst working.

Casual Outdoor Education Teacher
Marcellin College is offering a 20 week contract to work with the Outdoor Education Department in delivering Outdoor Education activities on the Year 7 Orientation Camp, the Year 8 Coastal Camps and the Year 9 Grampians Bush Camps.
Duties include supervising, running and instructing a variety of activities which could include combinations of flat water canoeing, bush walking, overnight camping, mountain biking, surfing, rock climbing, initiative activities, games and sports.
Ideally candidates will have relevant qualifications in all or most of the above but must have a current first aid level 2 minimal and current teaching accreditation. Licensing and certification to drive a 22 seat bus would be an advantage. Candidates would need to be willing to have a current police check carried out. Successful applicant will be employed for one Year 7 camp, nine Year 8 camps and eight Year 9 camps as well as 2 weeks to prepare, the position is based on a normal teaching scale rate.

GEELONG GRAMMAR SCHOOL
Timbertop Sessional Staff
Timbertop is the remote boarding campus for all Year Nine students studying at Geelong Grammar School. Students undertake a complete range of academic studies and an ambitious and challenging Outdoor Programme that runs right across the year.
The primary focus of the Timbertop Outdoor Programme in Terms 1, 2 & 4 is bushwalking in the Victorian High Country. Our students walk in small, semi-independent groups, and embark on routes that range from moderately difficult to very challenging.
We are currently seeking experienced sessional outdoor educators for Term 4, 2008 to be part of our Safety Network. There is the possibility of further work in Term 1, 2009. We seek professionals who are hard working, passionate about the outdoors, and able to work independently. Our programme runs three days a week throughout Term 4, with a larger block of dates in early December.

MONASH UNIVERSITY
Sessional Experiential Learning Program Staff
Monash University's Bachelor of Sport and Outdoor Recreation combines in-depth academic study with hands on experience in sport and outdoor recreation.
The course is based at the Peninsula Campus (Frankston) in close proximity to a number of natural venues including rivers, oceans and mountains.
Monash University is looking for experienced Outdoor Educators to join their Sessional Field Staff pool. Sessional field staff will be involved in delivering Experiential Learning Programs in remote and rural venues.

Out Doors Inc. is a community-managed organisation that provides outdoor adventure & recreation programs for people living with mental illness.
We are currently seeking experienced and qualified people interested in sessional work to join our team.
Instructor qualifications and practical experience in at least two of the following activities: rock climbing, bushwalking, snow skiing, canoeing, rafting or caving is essential, as well as a current wilderness first aid certificate or equivalent. Evidence of at least 4 years experience in the Outdoor Education field relating to risk management and group work.
Highly developed communication skills are fundamental to this position.
Experience, training or skill in the mental health field and experience in other diverse and challenging work situations is highly desired.

Expedition Leader (Contract position)
World Challenge is recruiting Expedition Leaders to accompany its Secondary School Teams on three-four week Overseas Expeditions to developing countries in Asia, South & Central America and Africa.
What we can offer you:
Candidates are required to attend a four-day Training and Assessment Course in Woodend (VIC) in March/April 2008, a one day Expedition Preparation Conference and a ‘Meet the Parents’ afternoon/evening.
The minimum requirements for all WCE Expedition Leaders are:
Hard Skills/Technical Qualifications in trekking/bushwalking.
Experience leading 5+ day bushwalks/treks.
Experience working or traveling in the developing world.
Wilderness/Remote Area First Aid Qualification or equivalent.
Previous Experience working with youth/appropriate soft skills.
